DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL.
The monthly meeting of the Committee was held in the Committee Boom, Town Hall, Clyde, on Monday evening the 7th instant, at 8 p.m.

The minutes of the annual meeting of contributors, and of preliminary meeting of Committee were read and confirmed. The acting Secretary read the inward and outward correspondence which was received and adopted. The outward correspondence included the following letters. A letter from the Provincial Treasurer asking for a return, shewing the number of patients admitted into the Institution during the past year, and the average cost per head per week for same, also the probable cost of the Instiution for the ensuing year, and other information.
A letter from Dr, Niven, asking for pay meat of two days salary due to him.
A letter from Dr. C, Shaw, asking for payment of three months’ salary, the term of his leave of absence. A let cr from C. Cameron, the Co k, asking for an increase of wages from thirty shillings to forty shillings per week. Proposed by Air. Grindley, seconded by the llav. C. B. Itoss,- That a sub-commit-tee, consisting of Mrs, Christophers, Barlow, and Fache be appointed, and empowered to supply the Provincial Treasurer with the information asked for by Him. Carried.
Proposed by Mr. Christophers, seconded by Mr. Peraud, —That the sub-committee 1)0 requested to embody in their report to the Provincial Treasurer every particular with regard to the Working of the insti'iition, and to represent that it is considered the .£2 to £1 suhsi iy will be insullicient to meet every requirement for the ensuing year, and praying the subsidy bo increased to £."> to £I. Carried.
The Honorary Treasurer entered into an explanation respecting the demand of Dr. Niven, after which it was resolved, that the amount he paid. A discussion took place, in which several Members of Committee joined, regarding the claim of Dr. Shaw, the Miuutebook was referred 10, and the whole of the circumstances were taken into consideration, ultimating in a proposition by Mr. Feraud, seconded by the Rev, C. S. Ross, —That the salary of Dr. Shaw, during his leave of absence he paid.
An amendment was moved by Mr. Grindicy, seconded by Mr. Beck, —That the letter stand over for consideration till the next meeting. The amendment was carried.
Proposed by Mr. Facho, seconded by Mr Beck, —That the application of C. Cameron for an increase of wages be not acceded to. Carried.
The Visiting Committees’ Report, No. 1 was read and received, No. 2 report, recom-

The Eesident Surgeon’s report shewing the following particulars was read and received : —Number of patients in the Hospital, January Ist TS7O, 13 ; admitted during the month, 11 ; discharged during the month, 9 ; remaining in] Hospital January 31st 1870, 15 ; average ■ ally number of patients in the Hospital, 13: J. Patients admitted were from Alexandra, 4, Clyde, 3, Tinkers, 1, Drybread, 1, Bendigo Gully, 1. The repo-t also stated, that two patients Thomas Wilson and Eohert Isbistor had been sent to Dunedin as incurables, and that the Eesident Surgeon was requested to tender their thanks to the Committee for the kindness and attention they had received whilstfin the Hospital.
The election by ballot of a member of the Visiting Committee, vice Mr. K. Barlow, retiring was proceeded,with, ami resulted in the return of Mr, Griiulley. In reply, to a question Mr. R, Barlow the acting Secretary sal 1 that Mr. H. Milburn, the Secretary had intimated ho would be in Clyde on or about the second week of February.
Mr. Marshall asked the Secretary if a patient named Pliillipsou had paid for atte ldance during the time he was in the Hospital, he said ho knew the man was in a position to do so. He, Mr. j, Marshall stated he was'.induccd to ask the question as by the t last annual report ho saw that but a small amount of money bad been received from paying’patients, and he thought that active steps should he taken to make those patients who were in a position' to pay according to the rules as paying patients to do so.
Mr. Marshall next read an Article from the “ Tnapeka Times ” comparing the cost of maintaining the Tnapeka Hospital with thatiof the Dunstan, lie said the figures shewed favorably on the side of Tnapeka, and he could not but'endorse the conclusion arrived in the report, that mismanagement existed'somewhere. A general conversation ensued, during which some members spoke warmly, disclaiming the want of management, and entering into the relative cost of provisions at the two places.
A .suggestion was made that the attendance of the House Surgeon at Meetings of Committee was necessary. After a few remarks, it was resolved that Hr. Barrows be invited to attend future Meetings of Committee.
The customary vote of thanks to the Chair concluded the meeting.
