DUNSTAN DISTRICT JOCKEY CLUB.
A meeting of the Committee was held at Patterson’s Old Ben ligo Hotel, Clyde on Saturday evening last,—Present, W. Frazer Ssq., President, J. Hazlett, Esq., Vice President, and Messrs Grindley, Fache, A. Christophers, (Honorary Treasurer) and R. Barlow, (Secretary). The Secretary read the minutes of last meeting, which were confirmed.
The Secretary stated the object of the meeting was to confirm the days previously fixed upon for the Annual Meeting, and to issuo instructions for giving publicity to the same.
After discussion, it was resolved, that the annual meeting of the Dunstan Jockey Club be V eld on Thursday and Friday, the February, and that the same be in the “Daily Times” also the “ Dunstan Times.” The Secretary was also instructed to write to the various Jockey Clubs, informing them of the date of the meeting. After a conversation, it was resolved, that a meeting of the Committee be called for Tuesday, November 30 , for the purpose of drawing up Programme. The Treasurer in answer to a question, said the balance in hand was £155 15s Bd., and that only twenty one members of the Club had paid up their subscription. A discussion-took place relative to the fencing in of the race course, and preparing the same for the races, during which a probable estimate of the cost of fencing, and the probable revenue that would be derived, was entered into; after which, it was arranged that the President enter into communication with the Government; aud with
Messrs Greig and Turnbull, with the vi w of having the race course granted to the Club. It being considered that nothing definite could be done in the matter of fencing this season, it was resolved that the Trustees bo | authorised to expend the sum of £lO in ! having the course prepared for the coming races. A vote of thanks to the Chair concluded the meeting. DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL. The monthly meeting of the Committee of the above Institution was held in the Council Chamber, on Tuesday evening, the 2nd inst. Present : Messrs. George Pache, (Chairman), Marshall, Hueston, Grindley, Patterson, A. Christophers, (Treasurer), and R. Barlow, (Secretary. The minutes of previous meeting, held on tho sth October, were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was read an 1 approved, and the inward read and received. Tho Visiting Commit ee’s report, No. 1. was read, in which, great credit was given Dr. Thomson for the efficient manner he had conducted the Institution during his temporary charge. 11 also noticed that the refractory Ward was nearly completed, and recommended the sum of £IOO be paid the • contractor on account. The Secretary stated that in virtue of his office, he, on Monday last, the Ist inst, had installed Dr. Burrows in the Institution as Resident Surgeon. It was resolved on the motion of Mr. Patterson, seconded by Mr. Geindley, That a complimentary letter be presented to Dr. Thomson testifying to the able manner he had managed the Institution. The Visiting Committee’s report No. 2, recommending that the following accounts be passed for payment, was road and adopted :—Salaries, £6S Ss. 4d.; provisions, £77 Os. 2d. ; medical comforts, £ll 17s. 6d.; fuel and lights, £3 13s. ; drugs, £46 7s. 4d. ; furnishing, £2l Is. 4d. ; coffins and inter, ments, £3 ss. ; garden seeds and labor, £8 15s. ; buildings, £llO : sundries L2 2s. 6d. The Treasurer’s report, showing that the sum of £SOO Government subsidy had been received ; subscriptions during the month, £l3 2s. 6d. ; ba’ance in hand, £296 Ils 6(1.; and Government subsidy due, £343 Bs. 5., was read and received. The Resident Surgeon reported that seventeen patients remained in the house at the »»vi of last month, that twelve had since been admitted, eleven discharged, and one died, seventeen remaining in Hospital. Average number of in-patients, eighteen ; out-patients, eight. Tne Inspector of Works reported that the private residence of the House Surgeon was now finished, that the dispute between the contractor and himself, respecting the painting the inside, was to be settled by arbitration, and that Messrs. Fyke and Petrie were appointed arbitrators. A conversation took place, with respect to the disposal of the two rooms previously occupied by tho House Surgeon; al o, aa to the repairing and ventilating of kitchen It was decided by resolution that, tho sitting room be used as Committee ami Surgeon's room, and the bed-room as a sitting room for the domestics, and the Visiting Committee were empowered to call for and accept tenders for the necessary work to the kitchen. Mr. George Clark was elected a member of theVisitingCoinmittee, vice Mr Grindley, retired. Notices of motion : That, in future, all drugs be tendered for. That in the event of a quorum not being present within twenty minutes after the hour for which a meeting is called, such meeting lapse A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.
