OF THE JUNE ENGLISH MAIL. (BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.) (From our own correspondent.) Dunedin, Wednesday. 3 p.m. The English mail arrived here yesterday. The following are the principal items of news : The Viceroy of Egypt arrived in Loudon on the 22nd of June. At the annual meeting of Voluteers at Wimbledon, the Queens prize was won by Angus Cameron, with a score of seventy-one. The French Atlantic cable has been successfully laid. The Duke of Newcastle’s estate has been sold. Sir George Grey, late Governor of New Zealand, and several other members of the House of Commons, have strongly protested against the treatment this co/ony has received at the hands of the Colonial Office. The Irish Church Bill has received the Royal assent. During the debates on New Zealand in the Houses of Lords and Commons it was suggested that a Committee be appointed to take charge of the affairs of the colony. The Government still decline to render any assistance. The Bill for placing the whole of English Telegraph Lines under the control of the Government has been passed. A terrible colliery explosion has occurred at Wigan, resulting in the loss of no less than tnirty-seven lives.
