DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL.
A meeting of the Committee of the Dunstau District Hospital was held iu the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening last the 7th instant. Present, Vincent Pyke, Esq., the President, and Messrs A. Christopher, (Treasurer), Hazlett, Hastie, Patterson, Beck, Grind ley, Ross, Huesten, Marshall, ami R Barlow, Secretary. The minutes of previous meetings were read and confirmed The outward correspondence was road an! adopted, and the inward read and received. Proposed by Mr. Ross seconded by Mr. HazlettThat three days leave of absence he granted to Dr. Niven, on condition that he arrange with Dr. Thomson to take charge of the Hospital during his absence. Carried. Proposed by Mr. Hazlett, seconded by Mr. Grindley :—That the request of the Government for the Resident Surgeon to attend sick prisoners gratuitously be ac. coded to, and that the Secretary be instructed to communicate the same to the War 'on. Carried. The attention of the Committee was oaPed to the fact, that the acting Resi ’ent Surgeon, Dr. Niven, had not registered the death of the Chinaman, who died in the Hospital last week, though repeatedly requested to do so ; also, that rumors wore current that the body hsd been dissected without authority. Proposed by .Mr. Christopher, seconded by Mr. Hazlett That Dr. Niven ho instructed to register the death of the Chinaman who died in the Hospital last week without further delay, and- prior to his availing himself of the leave of absence granted him by the Committee. Carried. Proposed by Mr. Hueston, seconded by Mr. Beck That Dr. Niven ho requested to state, whether cr tot, it ia true, that ho
has dissected the body of the Chinaman referred to in the foregoing resolution, and if so, by what authority. Carried. The Visiting Committees Reports were adopted. The Treasurer rep rted balance in hand to bo £IBO 12s. sd. Government subsidy due £749 lls. sd. The Resident Surgeon’s report was read and received. The sub-committee appointed to arrange for the appointment of a temporary surgeon, reported they had made arrangements with Dr. Niven to continue in charge of the hospital for one month longer ; that he was to reside in the private house, and to receive the sum of £ls in lieu of board. Mr. James Patterson was re-elected a member of the visiting committee. Mi-. Hazlett stated that Hospital Races had been run at Cromwell and Clyde, in aid of the funds of the Institution ; that both races had been won by a lad named Charles Holt, who had also previously won races for the Hospital, he would suggest that the Committee should make the lad a small present. It was resolved on the motion of Mr. Hazlett, seconded by Mr. Hastie 'That the sum of £2 2s. be ofTcrre 1 to Charles Holt in recognition of his services. The following tenders for supplies were accepted.-Coffins, William Atkins; Burials, W. Wells ; Meat, Attlield & Welsford ; Bread, Joseph Hastie; Groceries, Wines and Spirits, James Hazlett. A vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the business of the meeting.
