ALEXANDRA TOWN COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council was held in the Council Chamber ■on Friday evening the [27 th August last. Present, the Mayor, and Councillors Beresford and Theyers,

The correspondenceJ was read and approved. A letter was read from Mr. Jack stating that he still adhered to his ( wish to resign his seat for Manuherikia Ward. Accordingly his resignation was accepted on the motion of Counci lor Beresford, seconded by Councillor Theyers.

The Town Clerk was instructed 'to ,take the necessary steps to fill the place thus left vacant. A letter from Mr. J. L. Gillies to the Mayor, was,read in respect to Hundreds Regulation Bill. It was resolved to call a public meeting on Wednesday night the Ist September to test the feelings of the residents on the subject. • According to notice given Councillor Theyers moved, that instead of calling for fresh tenders for improving Limerick-street a sun not exceeding £ls be,expended thereon, seconded by Councillor Beresford

and carried. The election of the various committees was then proceeded with, and’Jit was carried that Councillors Beresford aud Theyers be members of Works Committee, and that Councillors Hillhouse and be _membors of Finance Committee.

Sergeant Neil was reappointed to the ofiico of Inspector of Nuisances for the year ending Ist August 1870, salary, same as last year. On the motion of Councillor Beresford, seconded by Councillor 'i'h eycrs, the valuators fee for the ensuing year was fixed at £2 10s each.

Councillor Theyers proposed, that the Mayor, Councillor Bercsford and the mover be appointed a committee to consider the best method of obtaining a water supply for the Township. This was seconded by Councillor iieresford and carried. The Town Clerk was instructed to comnnmicate'with the various Bace owners as to the cost of a permanent supply of water for the Township.
