ALEXANDRA TOWN COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Town Crunch was held hi the Council Chamber on Friday evening last. Present: the Mayor an i full Council. The minutes of the last mooting were real and confirmed.

The outward Correspondence was read and approve At this stage of the proceedings a deputation, consisting of Messrs. Chappel and Evans, came in and presented a memorial. The standing orders were suspended, and the memorial was road by Mr. Chappel. It contained soma complaint* as to certain actions of the Town Clerk, and prayed the Town Council to see that such things did not occur for the future.

The memorial was received, and ordered to lie on the table. The deputation then retired and the usual business of the evening was resumed.

A letter was read from Mr. Charles Hillhouse, calling the validity of the Mayor’s oleetion in question, as the polling booth for Manuhorikia Ward was not open punctually at 9 o’clock.

It was decided that the letter be not received.

Leave was granted to Mr. Lewis Cameron to erect a lamp-post and horse-post in front of his premises, and a’so to put in a drain under footway. The subject of the memorial was again brought up, fund a hot discussion ensued. Eventually the memorial was ordered to lie on the table.

A statement of rates collected during the half-year ending the Ist of August was read and approved, and ordered to be forwarded to the Government for recovery of £2 to £1 on the amount, £ R 4 >3s, Messrs. MTCseman and Taylor’s account for re-setting quicks and erecting fingerposts between this and Black’s, £2 13s. 6d., was passed and ordered to he paid. Plans and specifications for works for Limerick-street w'ere laid on the table and approved of, and the Town Clerk was instruct’ d to invite tenders for the work, to he sent in not later than Fridav, the 13th of August.

A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the proceedings.
