DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL.
The usual monthly meeting of the Committee of the above Institution was held on Tuesday evening last. Present: Messrs. Pyke (President), Hazlett, Boss, Clark, Patterson, Fache, Hastio, Huoston, Beck, Grindley, Marshall, Christophers (Treasurer), and Barlow (Secretary). The minutes of the last monthly meeting were read and continue 1.
Inward and outward correspondence was read, received, and adopted. The Visiting Committee’s report No. 1, stating that they had purchased a lot of poultry for the use of the Institution, at a cost of £5, that they had accepted a tender for fencing in the Hospital Reserve at the rate of £1 per chain, that they had made arrangements for ploughing and harrowing three acres of new land, and recommending that a refractory ward he at once proceo led with, was read and received. Repot t Ho. 2, recommending payment of accounts for the month, amounting to £l7B 7s. 5d., was read and received.
Proposed by Mr. Hazlett, seconded by Mr. Grindley, That a sub-committee, consisting of Messrs. Clark, Hueston, and Marshall, he appointed to draw up plans for a refractory ward, and submit same to a meeting of Committee to he specially convened for that purpose. Carried.
The Treasurer reported that the account had boon overdrawn £143 Os. 6d., and that the amount of Government subsidy due was £1,226 3s. 5.1. The Secretary was instructed to apply to the Government for an instalment of the subsidy duo. The Secretary read the list of contributions for the month ending the 31st July.— (See advertisement) Resolved, That a vote of thanks be recorded to the various subscribers for tbeir contributions.
The Resident Surgeon’s report, stating that, during the past month, thirteen patients [had been admitted, four discharged, two died, and fourteen remaining in the house on the Slat of July, was read and received.
The Inspector of Works reported that the Surgeon’s residence was nearly completed, find that the contractor had been paid £2OO on account. The Secretary asked whether those persons whose names appeared on the books as having contributed to the funds £lO or upwards were entitled to become Life Governors. Ho explained that his reason for putting the question was that several persons whose horses had won Hospital races had applied to him for the privileges. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr.
Beck, seconded by Mr. Marshall, That the f Committee will recognise as being entitled to be'placsd on the list of Life Governors or Lifo Subscribers such _ contributors only as shall make donations direct from their own funds in aid of the Hospital of the qualifying sums set forth in section 7 of the Bye-laws.
The applications for the appointment of Hcuse Surgeon were opened and read. (See advertised list.) On the motion of Mr. Patterson, seconded by Mr. Marshall, it was resolved, That a meeting of Committee ho held on Thursday evening, the sth inst., at 8 o’clock, for the purpose of considering the various testimonials.
Resolved, That the vacanct in the Committee caused by the retirement of Mr. C. Ziele be filled up at the Special General Meeting, to be held on the 17th inst.—(See advertisement.)
A question bavin <r been raised as to whether voting by proxy would be allowed at the election for House Surgeon, the President stated that it was distinctly laid down in the Ordinance that all votes must bo by tbs person.
