DUNSTAN DISTINCT HOSPITAL
The monthly meeting of the above institution was held in the ' 'ouncil Chambers, Clyde, on Tuesday evening last. Present: Vincent Pyke, Esq., (President), and Messrs. Hazlett. Fache. Hastie, Crindley, Beck, C'ark, Rev. C. S. Ross, A. Christophe -s, (llonoraryTreasurer), andß. Barlow, (Secretary). The minutes of last monthly, and of special meetings hold on the IGth and 21st ult., svere road and confirmed. The inward aud outward correspondence were read, received, and adopted.
The Visiting Committee’s report No. I was read and approve !.
Report jin. 2, recommending payment of the following accounts, was read and adopted:—Groceries, £49 4s. Gd.; Salaries, £55 Cs. Bd.; Surgical Instruments, Waterbeds, and Pillows, £36 2s. 6d.; Furniture, Stationery, &c., £7 ss. Bd.; Coffins, £6 Gd.; alteration to Alexandra Ward, £7O. The Treasurer’s report shewing balance in band £lB2 Os. 4d., Government Subsidy due £9BB Os. Gd., was read and adopted. The Surgeon’s report, stating the number of patients remaining in the house on the 31st of May, twelve; admitted during the month of June, two; discharged during the same time, seven, was read and received. The Sub-Committee appointed to make arrangements for the temporary appointment of a Resident Surgeon, reported they had appointed I)r. Aiven, at a salary at the rate of £4OO per annum, until the election of a Resident Surgeon. Thu snb-Commitleoappointedto advertise for c resident Surgeon, reported that they had caused advertisements to ha inserted in
the “Otago Daily Times,” “Wellington Independent.” “Southern Cross,” “Canterbury Press,” “Australasian,’’and “Dunstan Times,” and they recommended that the applications should he considered at the next monthly meeting, to bo held on the 3rd August, and further, that the election should take place at the Council Chambers,
Clyde, on Tuesday, the 17th August. Mr. George Clark was appointed Inspector of works, in the case of the erection of Surgeon, s residence. On the motion of Mr. Hazlett, seconded by Air. Hastie, it was resolved that the Secretary he instructed not to divulge any of the names of the applicants for the office of House Surgeon.
The notice of motion in the name of Air, Christophers respecting the payment of salary to Dr. Shaw during his leave of absence was allowed to stand over till the September monthly meeting. Mr. Grindley was re-elected a member of the Visiting Committee. The Visiting Committee were authorised to purchase some poultry for the use of the institution, also to have all the linen and drapery marked. A di-cussion took place, relative to the building of a refractory ward. It was eventually agreed to take no definite action in the matter, till the affair was brought under the notice of the member of the Government, Mr. Gil'ios, who was expected to visit Clyde.
Notice of motion by Mr. Beck, That Dr, Corse bo appointed Honorary Physician to the Dunstan District Hospital.
