DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL
A special meeting of the Committee of the Dunstan District Hospital was held in the Council Chambers on Monday evening last.
There wore present, James Hazlott, Esq, in the Chair, and Messrs. Christophers, (Treasurer) Patterson, Grinlley, Clark, Marshall, Ilucston. Beck, Hess, and Robert Barlow (Secretary).
The Chairman stated that the meeting had been convened for the purpose of con-
sidering two letters from the acting resident Surgeon, the one requesting the Committee to appoint a Surgeon in his place, the other for permission to withdraw that request.
Proposed by Mr. Hueston. and seconded by Mr. Grindley that the letters read be received. Carried.
Proposed by Mr. Clark, and seconded by Mr. Patterson, that the request contained in Dr. Shaw’s first letter be complied with, and that a Surgeon bo engaged by the Committee till such time as the new Surgeon be elected.
An amendment was moved by the Rev. C. S. lloss, and seconded by Mr. Reck, that the request as contained in Dr. Shaw’s second letter be acceded to.
The original motion was carried, Proposed by the Rev. C. S. Ross, and seconded by Mr. Grindley, that Messrs Hazlett, Christophers and Clark be appointed a sub-committee to make; arrangements for the temporary engagement of a surgeon to take charge of the hospital till the election of the new Surgeon. Lost. Mr. Hazlett vacated the Chair in favor of the President, who now entered the room. An amendment was moved by Mr. Beck seconded by Mr. Ross, that the resolution complying with Dr. Shaw’s first request be rescinded, and that a sub-cominitteo be appointed to make the best temporary arrangements possible. Carried. A long discussion ensued, in the course of which, it was explained that the subcommittee could (should they see cause) have the resident surgeon removed, and make arrangements for another surgeon aptake temporary charge of th e Institution. The amendment was earned.
Proposed by Mr. Clark, seconded by Mr. Grindley, that Messrs Boss, Hazlett and Christophers be appointed',a sub-committee, in accordance with the foregoing resolution. Carried. Mr. Patterson stated that he could not visit the hospital, as a member of the visiting committee while Dr. Shaw had charge of the Institution, and asked that someone might be appointed in his place.
It was decided that the committee could not appoint a member of the visiting committee, seeing that this meeting had been called for a special purpose.
A vote of thanks to the Chair concluded the meeting.
