DRYBREAD ANNUAL RACES.

The attendance on the •course was every way satisfactory, a large number of ladies were present, everyone seemed to enjoy d themselves. The accommodation at the Grand Stand provided by Mr. S. M'Cullough, was deserving of all praise, and calculated to make a day upon a race-course agreeable. Mr. John Mellor, the,lessee of Booth No. 1., the only booth on the course save the Grand Stand, was liberally and deservedly patronised. The accommodations for the sight-seeingand sporting public on the Drybread course, far excelled anything of the sort we have experienced this season. The different events were wellc> >ntested. Mr. Grant’s Sea ve ger, here, as at St. Bathrn’s and Alexandra n.anaged to take in the knowing ones and had he not been desperately over-weighted, would have carried off the Handicap. Mr. Glasscolt, Merrythought, bolted as usual, and lost the Town Plate when within three hundred yards of the winning post. The jockeyship of I'oote, who won no less than three events, was much admired, he rode with consummate judgment.
Maiden Plate of 2 r ' sovs. Dn e and a quarter miles. Entrance 21. Mr. Glassford’s Madam (Waddle) 1 Kenan’s Eva (Tiney) 2 Glassford’s Calvin (Foote) 3 Madam led throughout, but was closely pressed by Eva at the finish.
Miner’s and Packer’s Purse of 151. Threequartersof amileheats. Entrance U. Is.

Six started, Dan winning easily.
Town Plate of 60 Sovs. Two and a half miles. Entrance 5 guineas. Mr. Kenan’s Topsy (Foote) 1 Grant’s Scavenger (Tiney) 2
Glassford’s Dragoon (Fred) 3
Topsy led off but was soon passed by Merrythought, who though closely pressed by the mare, kept the lead till about three hundred yards from the winning post, when he bolted off the course and topsy came in a victor, Scavenger and Dragoon out paced
Ladies’ Purse of 15 sovs. One mile and a half. Gentlemen riders. Entrance 1 1 10s.

Scavenger won easily

Five hoiv.es started. Won easily. The winner sold fors2/. to Mr. Burke.
SECOND DAY, JAN. 6,
The first race on the programme was a hurdle race, but there were not sufficient entries to make an event.
Matakanui Handicap of 40 sovs, nomination and acceptance 4sovs distance, one mile and a half. Mr. Glassford’s Archer (Dan) 1 Grant’s Scavenger (Tiney) 2
Glassford’s Musician (Waddle) 3
Previous to the st.u-t, Mr. Glassford declared to win with Archer. The Ma akanui favorite had a tough struggle with the Scavenger, who carried 9st. 71b. being two stone more than his antagonist. Won by half a length. Lottery Plate of 20 sovs. Three quarters of a mile- one event. Entrance, 1 Guinea.
Mr. Keenan’s Topsy (Foote) 1 Glassford’s Musician (Tiney) 2 Daniel O’Rourke (Waddle) 3 Very fast race, won easily by Topsy. Consolation Handicap of 15 sovsEntrance one guinea Mr. Turnbull’s Gipsy Queen (Foote) 1 Three started. The Queen won in a canter.
On Thursday there was Hack and Hurdle Racing, and avarietyof athletic sjiox-ts.
