CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council was belli in the Council Chambers, on We Inesday evening, last. Present. The Mayor anil Councillors Cambridge, Ziele, Hastie, and Clark. The minutes of previous meetings were real and confirmed. Correspon l ence was read and receive 1. The resignation of Cr. M'Connocbie was read as follows;—“ Owing to dissentions in the Council of which I am a member for the West Ward, and finding that no unanimity exists in the Council, I hereby tender my resignation and hope the same will be accepted On the proposition of Cr. Cambridge, the reaig'ation of Cr. M'ConUochie was accepted. The Standing Orders were suspended and the Council resolved itself into a committee, to discuss ways and moans. Upon the resumption of business, the statement of probable receipts and expenditure for the year 1838-3 as brought up was received, and a subcommittee, c nesting of

the Public Works Committee and Cr. Clark were appointed to consider the best course to pursue in the disposal of the old Town Hall and erection of a new one, such Committee to report thereon at the next meeting of the Council. Proposed by Cr. Hastie, seconded by Cr. Cambri 'ge, That The Mayor take the necessary steps to fill the vacancy cause! by the resignation of Cr. M'Connochie. Carried. Proposed by Cr. Ziele, seconded by Cr. Clark, That the Public Works Committee apply for a grant for the spring at the foot of the terrace, and to have the same protected by a stone wall. Carrie 1. The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the chair.
