CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council, adjourned from the preceding evening, was hold m the Council Chamber yesterday morning. Present: The Mayor (J. Haz’ett, Esq., J.P.), and Councillors M'Connochie, Cambridge, Hastie, and Ziele. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Tee Town Cleric read a report respecting certain (said to be illegal) meetings of the Council held by Councillors M ‘Connochie, Feraud, an! Atkins. The same report chargedCouncillorM'Connochie with having torn up two letters directed to the Council. The correspondence was read and received. Account submitted by the Town Clerk from Councillor Feraud, claiming £CO for expenses while on a deputation to Dunedin, Councillor Feraud threatening legal proceedings if the sum be not paid within one month. This and other accounts were referred to the Finance Committee. A letter from Councillor Feraud. tendering his resignation, was received, as also a second letter notifying his wish to withdraw the same. Proposed by Cr. M'Connochie, That the Mayor, Cr. ITastie, and the mover ho a Committee to see about the line of the proposed water race from the Lindis River to Dunstan Flat, in accordance with the letter received from the Secretary for Land and Works. Seconded by Cr. Cambridge, and carried. Proposed by Cr. Hastie, seconded by Cr. Cambridge, That Cr. Feraud’s resignation he accepted. Carried without opposition. Cr. M'Connochie protested against the present meeting as being illegal and improperly convened, Cr. Feraud not having rereceived a summons. Cr. M ‘Connochie warned the Council that all business transacted would he illegal. The Mayor explained that Cr. Feraud, having sent in his resignation, ha ’ no right to take part in any proceedings of the Council nntil such had been dealt with by that bo : y. A petition was read from certain ratepayers in West Ward, praying that the road between the Port Philip Hotel and the Ferry be repaired. Referred to the Public Works Committee. The Mayor was requested to call the attention of the District Engineer to unfinished portions of the Nevis read. Cr. Hastie requested an explanation respecting Cr. M'Oonnochie’s tearing up and destroying letters. Cr M'Connochie sail that the letters in question ha-" been written by kimte’f. The explanation was pot, deemed satisfactory, hut by advice of the Mayor, the inquiry ecu'-ht for by C-. Hastie was shelved. Proposed by C . Ziele, That, the Mayor, Cr. Ilastio, and the mover wait upon Mr.
Holt,' the proprietor of the Town water-nee and endeavour to arrange about leasing said property. Seconded by Cr M’Connochie and carried. The Council resolved into a Finance Committee, when all accounts due were passed for payment. Cr- Feraud’s account was referred back to him for explanation. The usual vote of thanks closed the proceedings,
