CROMWELL TOWN COUNCIL.
4 special meeting was held in the Council Chambers, Ciomwell, on the 21st ult. Present: The Mayor, and Councillors Smitham, Burros, Kelly and Booth- \ The following tenders wore read from the undermentioned parties, to undertake to value the property of the Municipality for the year ISGS-9:-Messrs. John Marsh and 0. W. Goodger, two guineas, (£l. Is. each): Mr. James Lowe, £3. 35.; Messrs John Booth and E. F. Badger, £6. 6s. (£3. 3s. each). It was resolved upon the motion of Cr. Smitham, seconded by Cr. Burres, That the tender of Mr. James Lowe and Mr. John Booth be accepted. Resolved, upon the motion of Cr. Kelly, seconded by Cr. Smitham, That fresh tenders bo called for, for clearing out, repairing, and keeping clear the Cromwell waterrace. The usual fortnightly mceting'was held in
the Council Chamber* on the 2Sth ult. Present: the Mayor, and Councillors Smitham, Bums, and Kelly. The minutes of previous meeting wore read and confirmed. A letter was read from his Honor the Superintendent, to Mr. W. H. Whetter, Mayor, acknowledging receipt of memorial relating to the Commonage for the district of Sromwell, and stating that the Provincial Government is most desirous of providing for the requirements of the memorialists. A letter was read from J. Bradshaw, Esq., M.H.R. relating to the above subject, expressing his desire to do all in his power for the advancement of the district. Wt From G. Duncan, Esq., Secretary Land and works, in answer to one from the Town Clerk, on the subject of the vote for the road from Cromwell to Nevis, stating the money (£650) was placed at the disposal of the Council for that purpose. From E. Elliot Elliot, Esq., Secretary to the General Post Office, on the subject of a tri-weekly mail to the district of Cromv ell, saying, inquiry will be made without delay on the subject, and the decision of the Postmaster General tranmitted to the Council. Resolved, upon the motion of Cr. Kelly, seconded by Cr. Smitham, That the Town Clerk acknowledge receipt of letters from his Honor the Superintendent, and Mr. Bradshaw, thanking those gentlemen for their attentfon to the subject. Resolved, upon the motion of Cr. Kelly seconded by Cr.Burres, That the letter from Mr. Owens asking for an extension of ground to his coal pit grant, stand over to this day six months. Resolved, upon the motion of Cr. Kelly, seconded by Cr. Smitham, That the Mayor and Council form a sanitary Committee with a view to keeping away all nuisances from the town water-race an I from the township. Resolved, upon the motion of Cr. Kelly, seconded by Cr. Smitham, That tenders bo called for, to supply the Council with a Table and two Forms. It was resolved upon the motion of Cr. Smitham, seconded by Cr. Burres, That Mr. Marsh's letter, requesting the Counc 1 t) give him the reason they hadfor rejecliu his, and Mr. Goodgcr’s tender, to value the Municipal property, be thrown into the waste paper basket. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.
