Wellington, Sept. 3r 1. Last niglit Mr. Mervyn moved that special representation for the Goldfields should cease. The Government is favorable to some readjustment of the representation, and will submit the resolutions shortly. Christchurch mean t'me being proposed for the whole colony, it was eventually unanimously carried, that New Zealand mean time should be adopted. The second reading of Mr. Reynold’s Ballot Bill was carried by 34 to 23.
The Libel Bill went into Committee after three hours' debate. Mr. Reid's six months amendment thereon was rejected by 26 to 24 to day.
Mr. Vogel's motion, enabling the Provinces to set apart permanently a portion of the Land Fund for immigration, has been under discussion. Mr. Jollic haß moved an amendment, setting apart 25 per cent, thereof, " under the control of the local authorities, or of any commissioners of immigration." A preliminary meeting is to be held to day to arrange for a farewell demonstration to Sir George Grey. The Constitutionalists intend to agree to the proposed closing of partnership between the General and Provincial Governments, on Ist January, but to dispute energetically the basia on which the other financial proposals are calculated, . Their details wil not be arranged for a few days.
