ALEXANDRA.

(from ovr own cor. respondent.) The second annual Concert and Soiree given Ly the members of the Alexandra Temperance Society in the School house, Alexandra, on Monday evening last, was attended with the most satisfactory results, there being over one hundred persons present. The report of the Secretary showed

a large increase in the number of mem bers, and that in its finances, it held a most enviable position, the report was fc~ received with acclamation. The even- f ing was spent in a most pleasant manner. After the Tea and other good cheer had been attended to, the company were edified by some really excellent and pithy addresses, interspersed with singing; some of the songs were sung with great taste; the Company separated about 11 o'clock much pleased with the entertainment. Several meetings have been held here lately with the view of raising funds to prospect the bottom of the terraces on this .side the river ; nothing definite has been arrived at, but I am informed about .£7O has been collected towards accomplishing the object desired. At one of the meetings some very fctrange asseitions, \ ing the financial position oftheWKis Company were made by a Mr. Saudison ; quite a scene was enacted, during which the laisy gentleman had to hide his diminished head, a- it was ia danger of being snapt olf. Mr. Sandison decidedly had meted to him his deserts as I would ask, what business had he a man in no way connected with the Company, to bring up in a public meeting, its private affairs. Through the settled population in this district, business has improved of

late.
