Press t, —Mr. James Hazlett, the Mayor, and full Council, The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was road;— Inward.—A letter from Messrs. Naylor and others. A letter from the Provincial Secretary, acknowledging receipt of the notification of the Election of James llaz'ett Esq,, as Mayor. A letter from the Road Engineer to the effect that, the road between A! I'xamlra and Civile would receive 1 immediate attention. Outward, —To Mr Yv. L. Bailey, and others respecting protest against e'ection for Mayor. To Provincial Treasurer, acknowledging receipt of £2OO, subsidy. To C. Shaw Esq. M.D. informing him that his resignation of the office of Councillor for South Ward had been accepted. To Messrs Kenyon and Maddock, respecting account for 17s 2d. To his Honor the Superintendent, informing him of the election of Jas. Hazlett Esq. as Mayor for 18GS Jl. Comm'ttees appointed.— Messrs Atkins, 1 fustic aud Cambridge ; Works • Committee. Messrs Z'ele, Cambridge and M‘ Connochie; the Finance t'ommitiee for the ensuing year. Salaries Ac.—Town Clerk and Col- : lector, £7)O per annum. Inspector of Nuisances, £lO per annum. Auditors, one Guinea each per Audi l '. Asse.ssors. four Guineas each. Promised by Councillor Hastic, seconded by Councillor Zinin, “ That ; the' acting Town Clerk bo requested j i" intimate to Messr- Naylor and others, that, the Office of Town Clerk became vacant at tlie end of the past Municipal year; that a new Election will take place ; and also that due consideration would be given to their request Cari'iod. Carried. A veto of th inks to the Chairman terminated the meeting. CROMWELL TOWN COUNCIL. A Special Council was held in the Council handlers, on -Monday, the 10th of August. Present: The Mayor, and Councillors Smitham, Kelly, and Bum’s. ile.solml, upon the motion of CV. Kelly, seconded by (Jr. Smitham, That the Mayor, and Councilors Smitham and Burros form‘the Finance Committee. Unsolved, upon Ilia motion of Cr. Smitham, seconded by Cr. Burros, That Councillors Kelly, Buuvs, and Edwards form the Public Works Com mitt ce Resolved, upon the motion of Cr. Smitham, seconded by Cr. Kelly, That the Mayor and Councillorsßurrcsform the Legislative and Rate Committee: Resolved, upon the motion of Cr. Kelly, seconded by Cr. Burros, That the Stan ling Order, Section 1. Chnpt r 1, be added to those adopted by ibis Municipality. Resolved, upon the motion of Or. Smitham, seconded by Cr. Kelly, That Section 31. Chapter 4, he retained in the Standing Order. A vote of thanks to the Mayor terminated the proceedings.
