DUNSTAN DISTRICT RACES.

SPRING MEETING. The moot, came oft' on Wednesday i last, on rlio Dunstan Course The attendance was much larger than anticipated, and had it been more generally known that a Spring Meeting was to have deen hold the entries would have been much larger, and visitors in proportion. Everything passed o!F satisfactorily. The day was bright and sunshiny, a most agreeable change from what we have experienced these last two months. First Race. Sweepstake of 10s. each, with 10 sovereigns added, for all horses that have never won advertised money Half-mile heats. Eleven horses put in an appearance, Mr. Eraser's Kate being the favorite from the first, and she fully justified the anticipations formed of her. Mr. Eraser's Kate 1 M'Guinness's Rocket 2 Knendson's Tinker 'i A very fair start was effected for both heats, but as Kate warmed to her work she soon showed how easily she could pass her companions, which she did, wining both heats. In the first heat an exciting contest took place belwcen Rocket and Tinker, and it seemed a pity that they were not struggling for the first place. Second Race.—Sweepstake of £1 each, with ten sovereigns added, open to all horses that have never won an advertised race. Distance one mile. Mr. Newton's Tonic 1 Cox's Larry 2 Eraser's Kate 3 Twelve horses started, and the race was vr.ell contested. Third Race.—Hurdle race, sweepstake of £1 each, with 10 sovereigns added. Half-mile heats. Conditions the same as in previous events. Nine horses started, and three heats were run. The race throughout, was between Mr. Turnbull's Stockwell and Mr. Newton's Tonic. The former only won through the admirable riding of

his jockey (young Tnrnbull). The horses were, however, pretty evenly matched, and the pace produced considerable excitement. Mr. T. Hawthorne, of the Clyde Hotel, was lessee of the Grand Stand upon the occasion, and catered liberally for the de eolation of the sporting public.
