Ah Fat was charged by the Police with stealing a nugget of gol', a gold ring, and Is. Cd. in silver, from the hut of Neil M' Lallan, residing on the West bank of the Molyneux. Sargeant Neil arrested tbc prisoner on another charge, at a Chinese gambling house in Alexandra. While on his way to the Station, prisoner was shifting a small packet about his person, which being observed by the Sergeant, he found it contained a nugget of gold. Upon its being shown to prosecutor, he recognised it as bei'ig his. The prisoner offered no defence, and was committed to prison for two months. CROMWELL. Wednesday, I ">tli J it. v. (Before H. W. Robinson, Esq., li.M.) M'Council v Mayor ami Corporation,— Claim for £3l as.. Kent of water supplied for use of Township. Mr. Jenour, Town Clerk of Cromwell, conducted the case for the defence. Mr. W. L. Bailey for the Plaintiff. Satisfactory evidence was given by the production of documents, thac the water was supplied in pursuance of a tender accepted by defendants, and a verdict for the full amount and ousts, was recorded in favor of Plaintiff.
