ALEXANDRA TOWN COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of (lie Town Council was held at the Town Clerk'. 3 Office, on Wednesday evening at 7. 30 p.m. Present, The Mayor, and full Council. The minutes of the last meeting was read and confirmed. The outward and inward correspondence was rea'!. Councillor Beresford stated that the half yearly statement of recipts ami expenditure referred to the Finance Committee at last meeting, had l>'eeii examined by then and found correct ; he therefore moved thai the statement be accepted. Seconded bj Councillor Theyers and carried. The report of the Works' Committee WW. read by the Town Clerk. The report sta ted that they had examined into the neces sity of opening up Taynes Street, and thei find that the said street would be a grea j convenience to the residents at the- lows j end of the Township. A few cutting
woubi enable heavy waggons &e. to pass I round that way from the Township, or to ! the punt or Molyneux Ferry ; such cuttings in the opinion of your Committee could be made by an outlay of £lO. This with £lii a3 compensation to Mr, Fawcett for the re. moval of his house from off the centre of Taynes Street, would make a good and sufficient road for all purposes. The report also recommended about 11)0 loads of gravel to be placed in the wet swamp}' place at top of Tarbert Street The swamp at present being fpiite a nuisance, as well as a very unsightly place to look at, just at the entrance of the Township. The adoption of the report was movo'l by Councillor Ratcliffe, and after considerable discussion, was carried ; the matter being left in the hands of the Works Committee. The Town Clerk, on .the motion of Councillor .lack, was instructed to give notice to Mr, Wylde, to remove that part of his garden fence in rear of his premises, which abutsjon to Mullingar Street. The ballol big out of the Members to retire for the present year, was then proceeded with. The ballot being taken. Councillors Katcliffe and Jack were found to be the Members so to retire. Councillor Bcresford was appointed' to preside at the nomination of Candidates for the Mayorship, on Friday first. A vole of thanks to the Chair, concluded the business of the sitting.
