CROMWELL TOWN COUNCIL
The usual fortnightly meeting was held on the 6th Inst. Present : fhe Mayor and Councillors Whetter, Kidd, Smitham, and Edwards. The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from Messrs. Dagg and Co., asking permission to work on the bank of the Clutha within the boundaries of the municipality. From Mr. A. Bathgate, Honorary Secretary of the Clyde School Committee, enclosing account for £lO, for use of School Room, and asking for payment of the same. From Dr. James Corse. From Messrs. Cossar and Smith, asking . Ato be allowed to make alterations of their premises. Granted. Accuuut from Mr. William Grant, carpenter. Ordered to be paid. Reconsideration of Messrs. Connelan and Co. 's tender to supply the township with water. Resolved, upon the motion of Councillor •Smitham, secondel by Councillor Kidd, That the application of Messrs. Dagg and •and Co. be granted. Resolved, upon the motion of Councillor Smitham, seconded by Councillor Kidd, That the account and letter from the Cromwell School Committee stand over until this day twelve months. Resolved; upon the motion of Councillor Smitham, seconded by Councillor Kidd, Tiiat the Town Clerk inform Messrs. Connelan and Co. that the Council will answor their case on Monday, the J 3th inst. Resolved, upon the motion of Councillor Smitham, seconded by Councillor Kidd, That two men of mining experience be appointed to inspect the workings of Messrs. Sharky and Duncan. Resolved, upon'the motion of Councillor Whetter, seconded by Councillor Edwards, That the Town Clerk again write to his Honor the Superintendent, requesting him to cause their subsidy, past due, to be forwarded without further delay.
