ALEXENDRA TOWN COUNCIL
Tiie usual fortnightly meeting was held in the Town Clerk's ofliee on Wednesday, the 17th ult. Present: Councillors Beresford, Ratcliffe, Jack, and Tkeyers. Tiie minutes of the last meeting were read and continued, Correspondence was read and received. A deputation, consisting of Messrs. Sandison and Forrest was introduced, a.id presented a petition from residents in Ma lu-ll-rikia district, praying the Council to use its inlluence with the Governuenttu get certain parts of the roal betw «n ib-.- to./n----ship ami Balmoral lintel put in i\;p;;ir. On the motion of Councillor Jack, the Town CI ;rk was ins meted to draw the attention ot' his Unior tit.: Superintendent to tho subject, and to respectfully request Lint to instruct the District; R,.ad Engineer to cause the parts of road eomplaned of 10 be repaired. The usual business of the evening was then resumed. The Town Clerk was instructed to advise tiie Inspector of Nuisances to carry out his suggestions regarding ash-pits. Tho meeting was adjourned to the evening of the 20th ult. Present : the' Mayor and Councillors Jack and Beresford. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Tho Town Clerk read the report of the Public Works Committee, which stated that they had examined the works under Contract No. 2, Tarbert-streot, which had been surrendered by the contractors for inspection. The works having been found to be well and sufficiently executed, the Committee had passed them, and they were now in the hands of the Corporation. The report also recommended that the balance of contract sum due the contractors, amounting to £145 Is. 6d., be passed for payment. \i\ On the motion of Councillor Jack, tho report was adopted. The usual fortnightly meeting was held on the evening of the Ist inst. Present: the Mayor and full Council. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The lease of tho Council Chamber was Tead by the Town Clerk, and being approved of, was signed, sealed, and del vered in proper form, On the motion-of Councillor Beresford; the balance duo the Public Library Trustees, amounting to £lls, was ordered to- be paid. Councillor Theyers's motion "Thatthe opening up of Taynes-strect for traffic be taken into consideration," was then put to the meeting. On the motion of Councillor Beresford, the subject was referred to the works Committee, as also was the filling up of swamp at top of Tarbert-street. The Town Clerk submitted statement of receipts and expenditure for the half-year ending the ?,oth of June, 18G8, which was referred to the Finance Committee. Notice was given by Councillor Jack that he will move, at the next sitting, That as Mullingar-street is required for traffic, notice be given to Mr. Wyld to remove his garden fence, which abutts oa to the said street. The usual vote of thanks to the chair concluded the proceedings.
