CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council was held in the Council Chamber on Tuesday evening, the 23rd inst. Present : Councillors Hazlett, Shaw, M'Connoehie, and Cambridge. Cr. Hazlett occupied the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The inward and outward correspondence was read. Inward correspondence : A letter from Mr. W, L. Bailey, as chairman of a meeting held on the previous evening, embodying a resolution passed at that meeting. A memorial, signed by twenty-eight ratepayers, praying that the Council would form the footpaths in Coquet-street. A letter from Mr. D. M'l'herson, tendering nis resignation of the office of Mayor. An application from Messrs. Zicle and Patterson, foi permission to make a right-of-way to the rear of their premises across the footpath. Outward correspondence : A letter t.) Mr. Holt, to the effect that the Connci', having no control over private property, could not entertain his application for an extension of li's lignite claim. A letter and memo.-ial to his Honor the Superintendent, praying that the bridges across the Mamiherikia and Shotover rivers be at once constructed. Proposed by Cr. Cambridge, seconded by Cr. M'Connocliie, That the correspondence as read be received, with the exception of the letter from Mr. Bailey, which letter do lie on the table. Proposed by Cr. Shaw, seconded by Cr. M'Connocliie, and carried, That the petition for formation of Coquet-street be left in the hands of the Public Works Committee, and that they proceed with the work at once. Proposed by Cr. Cambridge, seconded by Cr. M'Connocliie, and carried, That the resignation of the Mayor be not received. Proposed by Cr, Goodwin, seconded by Cr. Shaw; That the application of Messrs. and Patterson be left in the hands of the Public Works Committee. Carried. A discussion took place respecting the salary of the Inspector of Nuisances. It was ultimatel ag.ee 1 that the salary should remain as at present until the Ist of August next ensuing. The Town Clerk stated that he would wish the Council to be adjourned until Tuesday, the oOth inst., to receive the halfyearly balance-sheet and to examine the bonks of the Council. The meeting was adjourned accordingly.
