THE PRICE OF NOBBLERS.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE DUXSTAX TIMES. Sir, —In your last issue wo were favored with a lengthy 1- tter from a gentleman signing himself “ Bisque,” respecting the high price of liquor supplied by the publicans of this town, and as one of that socallol class of extortionists, I would like to make a few observations in reply to an individual who so kindly offers his a vice, and who advances such very bad logic in support of his argument in favor of a reduction in the price of the “nobbier”. In the first place, I would like to ask this member of the “Anti-Bob As-ocia-tion” whether, simply bee mse the publicans of Alexandra have been so foolish as to reduce their pr cas to such a figure that they cannot live, and thereby deteriorating the value of their property, that we, who have from time to time beautified, extendo!, and enlarged our buildings, and have hacome the centre of a large mercantile community, are to ruin ourselves because a small number of the mining class arc dissatisfied with paying a fair price fur the article wa supply, coupled with the comfort we are enabled to offer them. I am quite certain that the Bonifaces of Clyde, sooner than submit to such a ridiculous and . uucalle ;-for reduction, would submit to 1 I lose the entire custom of the class repre- I seated by “ Bisque.” I Again, “Bisque” thinks it a matter of ! small moment that, if the alteration he wishosforshould causethe greater part of us tu close our establishments and lake to some other calling. This is much easier to talk about than to do, as 1 can assure “ Bisque” that, from the peculiar nature of the employment of a publican, it totally ; unfits him (with scarcely an exception) from following any other occupation, even should something present itself of a more lucrative nature. In conclusion, 1 would recommend “Bisque,” in return f >r his advice (no doubt kindly meant), that he should slick to bis pick and shovel, and from the result of las industry, ] have no doubt, it will he iiuwaJ terial whether the price of the “nobbier” ho ■ sixpence or one shilling. I am, &c., PUBLICAN. j Clyde, May IS, ISAS.
