CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.

The accustomed fortnightly meeting of the Council was held on Wednesday, the 29th April, in the Council Chambers, Sun-derlaml-street. Present: His Worship the Mayor, and Councillors Hazlett, Ryan, Cambridge, Shaw, and M'Connoehie. The minutes of the previous meetin" were read and confirmed. Inward and outward correspondence read, and approved or reserved as the case might be. A Committee consisting of Councillors Shaw, Cambridge, and Hazlett, were appointed to consider the "Municipal Corporation Act, 1S07" with a view of deciding which clauses of that Act it would be advisable for the Corporation to adopt. It was agree I that for the future, the Salary of the Town Clerk should be at the rate of £SO per annum, with 10 per cent, on rates collected added. The Town Clerk was ordered to prepare a ne norial to his Honor the Sin • intondent praying that the road now making on west bank of the Molyneux, between the Teviot and Alexandra, might be continued on to C]yde. The matter of the deficiencies by the late Town Clerk was fully considered, and it was decided that legal advice should be obtained as upon whom the liability should be fixed, The meeting was adjourned till Tuesday, the sth May. The adjourned meeting of the Council was held in the Council Chamber on Wednesday, 6th inst.,at noon. Present: the Mayor and full Council. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was read and received. Three applications for the office of Town Clerk were read. A ballot was taken, with the following result : G. Fache, 4 ; M. Marshall, 2. The application of A. Moore was not entertained, it net complying with the advertisement. Mr. George Fache was duly installed in the office of Town Clerk and Collector. The Standing Orders were suspended, and accounts amounting to £67 17s. were examined and passed for payment. Upon the business of the Council being resumed : It was proposed by Cr. M'Connoehie, seconded by Cr. Goodwin, and carried, That Mr. Beck's tender for renting

the stables at the rear of the Town Hall, at £5 per annum be accepted. The Town Clerk was instructed to draw nip the agreement, and also to prepare the bond for his sureties. The Public Works Committee reported that they had entered into an agreement with J. Halloway to construct the water channel and culvert in Ferry-street, for the sum of £lO sterling. The leport Mas adopted. The usual vote of thanks to the chair closed the proceedings. CROMWELL ToWtf COUNCIL. The usual fortnightly meeting was held on Monday the 27th ult. Present: Thg Mayor, Councillors Wlretter, Smitham, Kidd, and Edwards. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from the Provincial Secretary and Treasurer requesting to be informed (for the information of His Honor the Suprifttendent) what parts of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1867 the Town Council v,-ish to be extended to the Municipality of Cromwell. It was ordered to be considered at the next meeting of the Council and the Town Clerk to acknowledge receipt of letter and so to inform The Provincial Secretary. A letter was read from the Town Clerk Queenstown, Secretary to the late Municipal Conference, stating ;that this Council was represented by proxy. Resolved, that the Town Clerk give instructions to the valuators to assess all property within the boundary of the Municipality that has not already been assessed. The usual vote of thanks to the chair concluded the proceedings.
