Through presssure upon our space, we are compelled to hold over till our next issue, reports of meetings of Clyde and Cromwell Municipal Councils, and other matters. It will be seen by our advertising columns, that a Soiree on the occasion of the Ordination of the Rev. C. S. Ross will be held at the Town Hall, Alexandra this evening at 6.30. p.m. On Saturday, the Ladies of the District will entertain the School children to a treat at the same place. We learn that the ladies have provided sumptuous'y for the especial delectation of the juveniles. Our readers will observe by our Advertising columns that the Rev. E. H. Granger, Church of England Clergyman, will hold Divine Servibe at Cromwell, on the 7th instant, and at Clyde on the 10th instant. The Rev. Father Williams will preach at Cormwell on Sunday next The ceremony of Ordaining the Rev. C. S. Ross, Presbyterian Minister, to the Pastoral Charge of Clyde and Alexandra took place at the Church, Clyde. The Congregation was a very numerous one, and consisted of persons from all parts of the district. After Divine Service, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Urie, had been concluded, the 'reverend gentleman to the candidate for Ordinasttdn, in the form of questions, the Articles of the Presbyterian Faith, which were duly affirmed to by Mr. Ross. Mr. Ross then knelt down beside Mr. Urie, and both engaged in prayer. After which Mr. Ross was formally admitted into the Fellowship of the Presbyterian Church This portion of the ceremony concluded by the shaking of hands with the members of the Presbytery .The Rev. Dr. Copland next ascended the pulpit, and in a most impressive manner addressed the Rev. Mr Ross iiponthe obligations and responsibilities of the office to which he had just been ordained. Dr. Copland next addressed the congregation equally as impressively, the reverend gentleman being listened to most attentively. Prayer and singing concluded th« solemn and interesting ceremony. Upon leaving the Church each one of the congregation shook hands with the' Rev. Mr. Ross. In the evening there was a soiree at the Town Hall, when a numerous and highly respectable company was present. After an excellent tea, provided by Mr. Hastie of Clyde had been partaken of, the members of the Presbytery, the Rev. Mr. Ross, and several gtntlemen of local celebrity, mide suitable addresses. The members of the Clyde singing class, under the able direction of Mr. Spensl«y executed some capital pieces of music. The pleasant evening will no doubt long dwell in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to be present. Previous to the Ordination ceremony, the Presbytery and Mr. Ross were entertained by the Church Committee to a most recheich6 luncheon at George's Dunstan Hotel. It is needless to remark that the worthy host acquitted himself in his usual liberal style. The Forester's Ball to come off at Richard's Bannockburn Hotel, on Friday next, the 15th inst., promises to be a most brilliant ailair; a very large number of tickets have already been'disposed of. At the rear of the Hotel, Mi - . Richards has erected a spacious dancing room, especially tor the occasion : one hundred and twenty guests will at one time be able to find places at the table. Mr John Marsh of the Bridge Ho tel, Cromwell, 'gave a splendid entertainment to his 'Mends on the occasion of his birth-day. Mr. Whetter's band was in attendance, to the spirited strains of which, the votaries of Terpsichore tripped it merrily till long after early morn had dawned.
