BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH. (from our own correspondent.) Dunedin, 23rd Jany. There Was an unprecedented fail of rain on Sunday last, Great damage was done to Ike crops at the Taeri. The road to the Dnnstan by Rockand Pillar has been rendered impassa ble for vehicles. The other roads are very bad. Messrs Cope and Fache sold the Shag River Water Race on Monday last His Honor* the Superintendent and the Secretary for Lands and Works arrived from Tuapeka by Tuesday’s coach, they were well received. The Superintendent proposes to send a Steamer to the Auckland and other Islands in search of shipwrecked persons, also the boat’s crew of the General Grant. The Duke of Edinburgh has accept, ed the invitation of the Caledonian Society. His Royal Highness will formally open the Lyttelton Tunnel. A suspected murder of a woman at Tuapeka mouth is reported. The wool sale by Messrs Driver and M‘Lean on Wednesday, was moderate, ly attended. Very low prices were o tiered. The greater portion of the Lots were withdrawn. Sales made, Greasy locks, 2jjd Washed ditto, 4d.; Washed skin, Greay fleece 7d. to nine pence. The squatters present were much dissatisfied. It is rumored that the Government will sell the Wakatip Runs at Queenstown. There is no wish to dispossess the present occupiers Wilkin is not a buyer. Application to sell is merely to obtain payment of £2,000 compensation for loss of Run, voted to him by the Provincial Council a long time ago.
