THE MOUNT BENGER SELF-PROTEC-TION LAND LEAGUE ASSOCIATION.

(To the Editok of the Dexstax Times. ) Sir,— ln your last issue (the 17th inst.) appears a report of a 'meeting of “The Mount Benger Self-Protection Land League Association,” held at the Teviot School House, wherein it is stated that “ The attendance was really very goo.l ; in fact, there was as many present as the School House could comfortable accommodate.” In correction of the above, allow me to state that no such association exists in this district. On the evening name ! a committee meeting was held at the School House, and the persons named in the report referred to were present, and in addition to those all present were three boys. The Committee was recently appointed by a public meeting for the purpose of selecting the most eligible bloolrs of land to be thrown open for agricultural purposes. This step was taken on the suggestion of his Honor the Superintendent. Several of the gentlemen whose names are mentioned by your correspondent as being members of his self-called Self-Protec-tion Association are not at all pleased at having their names connected with the

imaginary League. The desirability of the object for which the Committee was appointed cannot bo questioned by any person having a regard for the permanent prosperity and welfare of the district; but such misstatements and misrepresentations, so far from enhancing the cause, are liable to have the effect of frustrating it.
