The Dunstan Times.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 27th 1867.

Beneath the Rule of Men entirely just, the pen- is mightier than the sword.

We are glad to find that some ra tional amusement other than the boisterous mirth of a race course will be provided for the inhabitants of Clyde, and surrounding places. The Choral Society, invite the people to a pic nic, on New Year's Bay, to take place on the flat bordering the Molyneux at Cox's Dairy. We presume the attendance will be a large one, no expense need be incurred by parties attending beyond providing themselves with the needful comestibles. The members of the Society we are sure will exert themselves to the utmost to afford amusement to all. Tt will be seen by our Advertisings columns, that a special meeting of sub scribers to the Pimstan Masonic T'al Company, for the purpose of considering a report from the Directors with respect to an increase of the capital of the Company, is to be held on Mon day evening next at the Dunstan Hotel, Clyde. The " Waikatip Mail" says :—" M.t. J. Nancarrow, inspector and engineersurveyor under the Steam Navigation Act, has made an examination of the Lake steamers. With some few alterations the vessels have been passed, and Certificates will be granted when the requirements of the Act are complied with. Mr Arch. Cameron, of the * lexandra, underwent an examination, and will, we understand, receive an engineer's Certificate. The Mayor has kindly consented to carry out certain duties of inspection, and is appointed to see that each steamer is pro- j perly equipped previous to its owner receiving a Passenger Certificate " W. Greenlaw Esq., Boad Fngineer nfor ms Us that the construction of the road on the West side of the Molyneux between Alexandra and Teviot, was commenced on Monday last, and that its completion may be expected in about two months, providing he can obtain a sufficient number of hands At the present time, a number of men at the rate of seven shillings per day are wanted.
