THE MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
ALEXANDRA. The noin'nations took place at the tctn-pn-ary Council Chambers, in the Camp buildings. A lar;e number of electors were present. At noon precisely, the presiding Officer, Mr John Camming road his warrant of appointment, and proceeded to read the nominations for Councillors as required by law. Mr R. Watkins, acting Town Clerk, took similar action, and expressed his readiness to receive nominations for Auditors. Mr H C. Jones and Mr Geo. Ftephenson, were nominated as Auditors, and elect d without opposition. Mauuherikia Ward —Mr J. C. Chappie proposed, and Mr Peter Caldcr secoiKM ed Mr James Rivers as Councillor. Mr Jas. S.indison proposed, and Mr J. G. Leslie seconded Mr M. O'Regan as a fit and proper person, &c. Mr Wm Wilson proposed, and Mr David Jonts seconded Mr Wm Beresford. Mr Jas. ' andison proposed, ar.d Mr W. Wilson seconded Mr i\ lexander Jack. Clutha Ward.—MrWm They era proposed, and Mr Louis Cameron seconded Mr L G. Ryan. MrL. G. Ryan proposed, and Mr Ed. Jones seonded Mc Win Theyers. Mr Wm. Robinson proposed and Mr 0 Hillhouse seconded Mr Geo. Jtatcliff. The nominations having closed, Messrs L. G. Ryan, W Beresford, M. O'Regar, a d A. Jack addressed the citizens present in appropriate speeches.—Mr Chappie spoke on behalf of Mr Rivers, and promised that he, Mr Rivers should address the electors before the poling day The presiding Officer declared the proceedings adjourned till the Ist August, wlr n the polling should take place. A voe of thanks to the presiding Officer and acting Town Clerk, concluded the proceedings. CLYDE. The nominations took pace at the Town Hall on Saturday, the 27th at noon, J. D. Feraud, Mayor, the presiding Officer, read the nominations as follows : South Ward, Dr Charles Shaw, East Ward, John U. Cambridge, West Ward, David M'Connochie and Joseph I Ilastie; from there being but one : nomination for the South and ' East. Wards, Dr Charles Shaw, and J. \J. Cambridge were duly elected. The Mayor notified that the Poll for West Ward j would take p'acc on Thursday, August Ist : when 1) M'Connochie was returned i by a majority of 17 votes. Messrs Christopher and Barlow were re i elected Auditors without opposition. CROMWELL. i The nominations t<x>k place at the School House on Saturday, the 27th inst. at noon, W. J. Barry, Esq. Mayor presiding, who read the following nominations, Bridge Ward, William Smitham and Thomas Carpenter ; Kawarau Ward, Robert Edwards, and Patrick Kelly, and stated the Poll wou'd take place on Thursday the Ist. August.
