We often times hear complaints about the mis-management of the telegraph, but the following piece of gross neglect or carelessness completely puts all we have previously heard into the shade. On Monday the 10th inst. a telegraphic message was sent from Messrs Creeth and Fuller of Duntdin, to a gentleman con nected with this paper, and on the following day, the 11th, an autograph letter, confirming the telegram—King Cobb, however, beat the wire "hollow" the letter arrived by mail on the evening of the 12th, a d the message not till the afternoon of the 14th. On Tuesday the 11th instant, Mr B. LFarjeon delivered, at the Odd Fellow's Hall, Dunedin, under the au-spices of the Grocers' Mutual Improvement Association, a lecture on " Humbug." Applications are to be made to the following officers,—John Hay !'sq. Clyde, G. F Percy Fsq. Queenstown, John Mackay Esq Tuapeka, and B. R. Baird Esq Mount Tda. A man named Flliott was killed by a fall of earth, at the Blue Spur, Tuapeka, on the I Oth. inst. in the claim of Livington and Co. he was struck on the back, as he was mining away,, and instantly killed. Parties working on tha Molyneux,, at the Horse Shoe Bend, are making from seven to eight ounces per day by whig damming with sand bags. Mr Grnbb, the Post Master of Clyde, lias received from Wellington a supply of stamped (embossed) paper, suitable for agreements, deeds, and receipts. The public will thus be saved the inconveniences arising from using adhesive Stamps. Great public loss is occasioned by the retention by tha Provincial Government of important documents at the Court Houses of Alexandra and Clyde. On Wednesday last, the Coroner for thetß*> triet, H. W. Eobfcuwn, Esq., held an inquest at the Bridge Hotel, Cromwell, on the body of an ihfotit, sixteen days old, the son of Thomas and Mary M 'Govern, who reside near the bridge, Cromwell The inquiry was a very lengthy ono —the evidence being extremely contradictory, The cause of death was ascertained to result from abscess on the breast—mortification ensuing. Dr Corse of Cromwell and Dr Charles Bhaw of Clyde, both gave medical testimony. The jury returned a verdict in accordance with the evidence, leaving it an open question as to whether the abscess was the result of externa injury or natural causes. Mr J. C. Thomson of Tuapeka, acting it is supposed, "under the instructions of the General o vernment, forcibly entered the Court-Honsc, and took therefrom the papers, books, and documents required in the public-service, the want of which hag caused great 'inconvenience. Two Chinamen, Ah Mony and Sing Foy Lave been brought up at the Police Court, Tuapeka, charged with the murderous assault upon Beu>jamin Harboard. The first-named prisoner was discharged—the second was remanded—he having been captured, in Weatherstone's with his shirt all torn, and with blood upon it. In consequenae of pressure of local matter, we are compelled to omit till our next issue, a number of correspondents' letters. Mr Field, the Clerk of the Bench at Alexandra, has been appointed Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marriages for the District of Manuherikia.
