[FIiOM OCK OWS CORRKSPOXIiENT.] A most telling proof of the prosperity of this district was given at Mr Smithum's, Kawarau Hotel, on Thursday evenin- last,- One of Hie best Billiard tables ever imported to Otago, lias been bronght to Cromwell by Mr Smitham. It is one of Alcock and Sons Melbourne productions and dors the greatest credit to Colonial art. The Billiard room was opened on the night mentioned by a ball and supper. Messrs Whetter and Guthvie produced the usual " sets " giving the parties present every satisfaction, dancing was kept up till a very lato hour The refreshments were of the most superior class, and every one Ci.joye.d_ themselves to their hearts content.'
