TOWX COUNCIL, •-•The usual fortnightly meeting of the Cour.eil was'lfeld in the School Room; on Monday the 3rd inst. Tlie Slayor in t' o Chair, Councillors Whettcy and Hetherington present. Councillor WhuHjer," moved' that the standing orders bo suspended, seconded by Councillor Hethcr!ngton, and carried. Letters were read from Messrs Smitham and Kidd, requesting permission to place steps in froi.t of their doors—permission granted. A letter was read from the Mayor of I Clyde,'liiforming the Council, that t'o citizens (if Clyde intend to petition tlio Gov. mor U> ldng in a Dill for the establishment of Shinv," and' Shire Councils, j and asking the" co-operation of the Citi-zens-of Cromwoll. Oalecedto be received. Proposed by Conneilior \V Tliettcr—- " That the Town Clerk he authorised to rent a room from Mr Lawrence k. be used as an office. The rental iot to exceed seven week."— Seconded bv Councillor Hethcriugton, and. carried. rroposed by Conneilior HeUierington, "That the Mayor, Council or Whetter, and the mover form a f'oihmittce to draw up the Bye Laws for tin; Corporation.
