NEVIS ROAD.
Nevis, June 1, ISG7. Mr Editor, Sir, —In reference to the letters of "Observer" and "Viator" in your paper, concerning the Nevis roads, I think any practical man would sec the inutility of expending money on roadmaking at this time of year. I would suggest the propriety of delaying the work until the weather would admit of the work being done more effectually than it can bo dote at present. It hf evident that Observer Would be greatly benefitted by having a good.track made to his store ; but at present, any attempt to make such track would, in the I event of a fall of snow (which we may ! daily expect) render it. more impassable | than it is < von at present. As to the (rival) Cromwell and Clyde! roads, the simple fact that all goods are sent through to here from the fWstnn, I nd no goods are being for warded, here from Cromwell, is quite sufficient to shew the importance of the Dunstan against, the j Cromwell route. If any portion of the j grant is appropriated for the Upper Nevis ! track. I think it ought to be taken from ! the £IOOO voted for the Cromwell Route, j as £3OO is little enough to repair and extend the present road from Clyde. Yours obediently, j •Gkorge Cahxaby.
