It is a great pity that journals are not better supported on the goldfields thah they arc, and that narrow mindedness looks upon the journalists with envious jealousy, rather than as a public benefactor—small as the up-country newspapers are, they have conferred inestimable benefits. A thorough re-organisation of the Wakatip Hospital is intended, and expenses are to he curtailed. The House-Surgeon's salary is to be reduced by L.IOO pc? annum, and the domestic servants in proportion.
