Wc have been requested to draw atten. tion to the frequent infringements of the " Town a d Country Police Act," at lyde, by the continued practice of parties allow ing cattle to depasture about the town, and the severe damage that is caused to gardens and fences. A correspondent at he Arrow informs us, and upon whose authority we place implicit reliance that a new Reef or- in other words the main Reef has been struck in the Cri erion Company's Claim. It is stated to be a solid {.ood looking stone, and about seven feet thick ; he also states tho Company intend erecting at once another battery of five beady; we most heartily congratulate the shareholders, and wwh it may prove as satisfactory a,s ftipeirtnecs indicate. A Public Meeting convened" by the Mayor, was held in the Council Chambers, on Saturday evening last. An amendment in favor of a ball and supper was put, and was carded A sub-commi tee ousting of Messrs Christophers, (ieorge, Fitch, Beck,' oodwin, 'ariow, Attfield, and Fache was appointed to carry out the arrangements for the ball—the juice oi tickets to be one guinea. A second subcommittee consisting of Messrs Carter, alley, and i ache, was elected to draw up the programme of procession.
