DUNSTAN JOCKEY CLUB RACES.

FIRST-DAY, Thursday'27th Tec, 1866. StewardsMessrs J. G G. Glassford,' U . J. Barry, J. Cogle, J. Hazlett, W. Smitham, W. Frazer, J. C. Thomson, and W. G. M'Pherson. Jndge—H. W. Robinson, Esq., Clerk of the Course—Robert M'Moran, Esq. Starter—William Griudley, Esq. Yesterday was one of the busiest dava that has been seen for some time past '1 he town of Clyde was full of visitors, and the various " bonifaces" must have done a roaring business. The weather waa beautifully fine, and a more favorable day for the thorough enjoyment of one of our most revered of old i nglish sports, it waa impossible to desire. Vehicles of every description were passed into the service of the public conveyance department, and the most delapidated old express-waggons and spring-carts must have earned sufficient to warrant their owners putting them into a respectable state of repair. The attendance on the course was not quite up to our estimation of what it should have been; still, every out-lying district was well represented, and those that did avail themselves of the opportunity for a holiday must have enjoyed themselves amazingly. With the Grand Stand, and its various arrangements no fault whatever could be found, everything was decidedly in advance of what was the case last year. The officers of the day acquitted themselves handsomely. The Clerk of the Course, Mr H, M'Moran, managed the turbulent spirits with great judgment, and the services of the police were in no caee culled into requisition. 1 lie Starter, Mr Griudley, was not so fortunate this meeting as last, but we hope to see him marshal his horses moi - e successfully to-day. The bell rang for saddling soon after half-past twelve, and at ten minutes past one, the start was made for the first race. Maiden Plate of 30 sovs—one a-half mile, weights for age : Mr J. G. Glaseford's AUander, (Monoghan) i H. Campbell's Arabian, (J. Ewing) ... jj J. G. GlasaJord's Buberto, (Waddle) ... a AUander took the lead at starting followed by Arabian, Huberto was held back and was doubtless merely entered to make up the race; AUander had it all his own way, and wone in a canter.

Publicans' and Storekeepers' Purse of 75 sovs—open to all horses; weights for age ; distance 2 miles : Mr Bracegirdle'sch.g. Skyonion, (W. Lang.) 1 Taggart's b.g. Schoolboy, (Joe Callaghan.) 2 Glassford's b, g. Rambler, (Monaghan,) 3 Scholes'b. g. Scrubber, 0 Lowe's b. g. Mickey Free, 6

A very good start was made. Fcrubber led off at a good pace, but was soon overhauled by Skyonion, followed by Schoolboy. Scrubber soon dropped to the rear—the chesnut at once occupied the vantageground.and though he was pssed by Schoolboy, maintained the lead to the finish, and won by half a, length; Rambler a bad third; Skyonion took the !knowing-one quite by surprise, and large sums changed hands in a direction not anticipated. Schoolboy might have stood a better chance had his jockey let him out earlier in the race—in the straight running he got & severe punishing, but all to no effect. Time 4 minutes 18 seconds.

Hurdle-Race of 40 sovs.,.over ten flights of hurdles; 1| mile heats; weights for age:—

Mr Mallighan's g. g. Garry Owen, (H. Prince) „ 1 1 Glassford's b. g. Don Juan 0 2

Thomson's g. e. Faugh o' Balloch ... 0 2 Low's b. g. Mickey Free, Kyan's g. g. Scotch Jock, Bracegirdle's g. g. TapanuL In the first and second beats— Ton Juan led, but eould never retain bis position beyond the first hurdle. M ickey Free baulked soon after starting, and was nowhere in the race. Faugh o' Balloch pressed the gallant old grey pretty hard, in the second heat, especially at the last two hurdles and in the straight running, but the Queens town horse, under the able guidance of Prince, was too much for him; however, we may look forward for better things from Faugh o' Balloch, at the next meeting. At the present Garry Owen is doubtless the "best hurdle-racer"iu the Province, and will carry everything before him for this season. Uunstan Jockey Club Handicap of 109 80vn—for all horses, distance two and a-half miles : Mr J. Cox's b,g. Farkaway, (Laverty) ... I Barry's ch, g, Wizard, (Foote) 2 Smitham's oh.g. Mailboy, (Kelso) „. 3 Glassford's b.g. Allan der, 0 Taggart's b.g. Schjolboy, 0 Mr Grindley could not manage to get his horses well together, and a baulk was the result; at last, however, the nags got off, and the prrwit event of the d;'.y oommenced amidst breathlesa anxiety.

'izard led followed by Allander, who

Mhowed good pluck but lacked the necespary strength and soon fell to the rear, pjarkaway when about half the distance into the first place and to the surprise of all maintained it to the finish. Wizard second, and Mailboy a bad third, TT«pV Sflllinor Stakes of 90 row—one bnd a-half mile heats. Mr Canew's Happy jjack was the winner, and was sold at [auction, hy Mr Cope, for L2B, after a npirited competition.
