The Christmas Sports' Committee'have at last bestirred themselves, determined not to be outdone by their neighbours at Drybread. A very liberal and attractive, programme will appear shortly in your columns. The Bailarat Hotel, lately in the occupation of Edward Dooley, was disposed of by public auction, on Saturday last, by Messrs Cope and Faehe ; the price realised was highly satisfactory and speaks volumns in favor of the confidence possessed by business people respecting the iutnre t>f this place. Mining matters have been rather dull of late, owing to the slipping in of the side of the Sludge Channel; a number of the claimholders on Kildare Kill have joined together to repair the damage. This important work, when completed, will cause a considerably large area of ground, now lying unproductive on account of tho vast accumulation of failings, to be profitably worked* 'ihe Quartz Reefs at the Bough Ridge arc lading very promising.
