TOWN COUNCIL, CLYDE.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council took place at the Council Chambers ou Tuesday evening the 27th inst. Present, Mr J. D. Feraud, Mayor, and Councillors, Hazlett, Goodwin, Cambridge, M'Connochie and Ryan. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was read and approved of. The inward correspondence, numbering fourteen communications in all, were read and confirmed. Among which, the following :—From A. Fitch, applying for permission to erect a verandah. From J, S, Webb, Hon. Sec. Otago Association, inviting co-opera-tion of the Council. From the Provincial Secretary notifying the appointment of H. W. Robinson as Registrar of Dunstan District. From the Honorary Secretary to Dunstan District Hospital, requesting the use of the Town-Hall for the' purpose of a Bazaar and Ball. From the Provincial Secretary stating that blocks 4, 5, 6, and 7, and sections 4, 40, 39, and 38, block 11, have been set apart for Municipal purposes. Fron Sergt M'Cluskey resigning his office as Inspector of Nuisances, owing to his leaving the district. From the same, stating that J. Brown had completed satisfactorily his contract for removing rubbish. From the same, with respect to, removing rubbish from unoccupied allotments. Proposed by Councillor Goodwin—" That the letters now read be received." Seconded by Councillor Ryan and carried. Proposed by Councillor Goodwin and seconded by Councillor Hazlett—" That Mr Fitch be allowed to erect a varandah as applied for. To be not less than 8 feet its lowest height, and the front posts to be fixed in a line, with the curb." Carried. Proposed by Councillor Hazlett and seconded by Councillor Ryan—"That the letter from the Secretary to the Otago Association, bo handed over to Committee appointed at a Public Meetiug held to watoh the interests of jthe Province." Carried. Proposed by Councillor Cambridge and seconded by Councillor Goodwin.—"That an advertisement be inserted in the ' Dunstan Times' calling for tenders for rental of Victoria Hotel and Stables." Carried. Proposed by Councillor M'Connochie and seconded by Councillor Hazlett—"That in cms the Victoria Hotel should not be let prior to the time fixed for the Hospital Bazaar and Ball, the use of same to be granted for that purpose on the payment of the sum of 14 4s. CarriedProposed by CouncillorHazlett and seconded by Councillor M'Connochie—"That the resignation of the Inspector of Nuisances bo accepted, and that application be made to Commissioner of Police to allow Sergt. Thompson to act in the same capacity in his stead," Carried. The minutes of proceedings of Public Works CQimnittee on the 7th inst were read and confirmed. The proceedings of the Finance Committee, at its meeting oi the 27 th inst, recommending payment of several accounts were read and confinned. Resolution ordering payment of the accounts above referred to was passed. Notice of Motion for next meeting was given by the Mayor: "That application be made to the Government to appoint an Inspector of Weights aud Measures for the Dunstan District." The Meeting after three hours sitting was adjourned for a fortnight.
