TOWN-COUNCIL CLYDE.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council was held at the Temporary Council Chambers, Victoria Hotel, on Friday evening last the 21st current. The Mayor and a full Council were present. The minutes of last meeting and two special meetings were read by the Town-Clerk. Proposed by Councillor Cope—"That the minutes of the two special meetings be confirmed, and that the minutes of meeting of the 7th inst be not confirmed till the production of agreement with Town-Clerk, and that the agree-' ment be produced at the next fortnightly meeting, to bo held on the "ith October. Seconded by Councillor Hazlett, and earned. A letter was read from the Provincial Secre> tary, acquainting the Council that Mr Mining Surveyor Coates could not act as honorary engineer to the Corporation, such being against the rules of the service. A letter was read from the Provincial Secretary, informing the Council, that Mr 11. \V, Robinson, had been recommended to tl e General Government for the office of Pegistr. r of births, deaths, and marriage, vice. Mr I!. Stratford, removed to Cromwell. A letter from Mr S. Isaacs, the member of Provincial Council for Clyde, respecting the Corporation. _ A letter from Mr S. Cannon offerin" to sell his hotel for the sum of L 250 for a town-hall. A letter from Sergeant M'Cluskie, requesting the Council to issue an order for the rem-vY..! if accumulations of rubbish at the rear of ocei. .1 premises. A letter in answer to one Rent to the ChiefPostmaster of Otago, respecting the alteration of arrival and departure of Dunedin mail, via. Tuapeka was read, it stated the alteration was in accordance with instructions received from the Post-Master General. The letters were ordered to be received. Mr Cannon's letter in reference was sale of Hotel for the purposes of Town-Hall, be ordered to stand over for further consideration. Sergeant M'Cluskey's letter concerning duties of Inspector of Nuisances, was referred to public works committee. Councillor Hazlett proposed—" That a committee composed of Councillors Cambridge, Cope, and the mover, do wait on the Warden and confer with him respecting town lands set aside for municipal purposes." Seconded by Councillor Morice, and carried. Councillor Hazlett proposed—" That the Town-Clerk be empowered to purchase stationery and books to the extent of L 5 for the use of the Council. Seconded by Councillor Ryan, and carried. Account from Mr M. Marshall, L2O 7s. for services rendered as acting Town-Clerk was ordered to stand over. A Vote of thanks to chair concluded the proceedings.
