PUBLIC MEETING at the ARROW,

A large muniber of the electors of the district met Mr. Haughton on the evening of the 20th inst., at Richmond's New Orleans Hotel, for the purpose of welcoming him on his return from his legislative duties, and hearing his account of late political events. Mr. W. Butler occupied the chair. Mr, Haughton, who was most enthusiastically received, addressed the meeting at considerable length, entering fully into the history of the late session of the Provincial Council, and arguing therefrom the necessity of an early dissolution. The honorable gentleman then proceeded to justify his conduct in the General Assembly, being frequently interrupted by api plause, and wound up by strongly urging upon the electors the necessity of exercising the privilege of the franchise with energy and discretion. The following resolution was. on the motion of Mr. Mackin, seconded by Mr. R. Young, unanimously adopted, " That this meeting has the fullest confidence in Mr. Haughton. and entirely approves his conduct in the General Assembly and Provincial Council, and also endorses his opinion that the Provincial Council should be immediately dissolved."

After the usual vote of thanks to the chairman the meeting separated.
