WAIPAWA SPORTS.
The annual sports of the Waipawa Athletic Club were held yesterday in a paddock at the rear of the Empire Hotel. Appended are the results : — Boys' Handicap Race, under 14 years, 440 yards.—lst prize, £1, Johnson; 2nd, 10s, Drower. Boys' 100 yards race, under 10 years.— Ist prize, 15s", Shanly; 2nd, ss, Hopkins. Throwing 16lb Hammer.—lst prize, £1 10s, John Murphy, 121 ft 7in ; 2nd, B. Donnehay, 36ft lOin. Putting the 161b Stone.—lst prize, £1 10s, O'Callaghan, 38ft Gin ; 2nd, 15s, B. Dennehay, 112 ft 7in. Maiden Race, 300yds.—1st prize, £3, and a silver medal presented by Mr J. Chicken, P. Maher; 2nd, £1 10s, John Tuhaki. Time, 35fsecs. Hop, Step, and Jump.—lst prize £2, and a silver locket presented by Mr J. Morrison, Dryberg, 41ft Gin; 2nd, £1, P. M'Greevy, 37ft 2in. Waipawa Cup (handicap), 880 yds, 440 yards, and 100yds.—1st, £12 and silver medal; 2nd, £6; 3rd, £2, with a special prize of £3 for the winner of the 100 yds race. Race decided by points, as follows:—lst in each event, 5 points ; 2nd, 3 points; 3rd, 2 points. Ist event: M. Lyons (10yds), 1; A. G. Howe (25yds), 2 ; H. Barry (scratch), 3. T. Murphy, M. Barry, C. Young, C. Prausch, F. Collins, and E. Oakenfull also started. Time, 2rnins. lOsecs. Amateur Handicap Race, 150 yards, for members of any recognised Amateur Club, or other persons who havo never run for money.—lst prize, silver cup, value £5, K. Cameron (9yds) ; 2nd, silver medal, A. C. Howe (9yds). J. Lockhead, F. Drower, and J. Polington also started. Time, 17 2-sths sees. Dancing Highland Fling.—lst prize, £3 and a clock value 10s presented by Williams and Co., Angus; 2nd, £1 10s, Lockhead. Waipawa Cup, second event, 4-10 yards. —Ist, 5 points, M. Waipawa Cup, third event, 100 yards.— M. Lyons (scratch), 1 ; D. J. Elude (scratch), 2 ; T. Murphy (scratch), 3. Time, 10 3-sths sec. Lyons (15 points) took the medal and £12, and an additional prize of £3 for winning tho last event; Howe took second prize, £G, with six points, Barry taking third prize, £2, wirh four points. Steeplechase, about 2 miles over broken course, containing several natural obstacles. —Ist prize, £5, C. Prausch; 2nd, £2, C. Siddles. Running High Jump.—lst prize, £1 10s, Dryberg (oft lin) ; 2nd, 15s, Carmichael (sft). Two others jumped. Vaulting with Pole.—Prize, £2 ; Thompson (Sft).
