HAWKE'S BAY COUNTY COUNCIL.
, T T ac Council met at 12 p.m. Present: r ' jS srs Sutton (in the chair), Bennet, ! Jouper, Rymer, Tanner, Kinross, Williams, Captain Birch, and Captain Russell. ELECTION- OF CnAIUMAJT. On the motion of Mr. Bennet seconded by Mr. Tanner, Mr. Sutton was elected chairman. Mr. Sutton returned thanks. He had great pleasure in resuming tho chair for the seventh timo out of nine years sinco the County Council had been in operation. Ho thought there should bo a periodical change in the chairman. He hoped the office Wild long remain an honorary one, though the office" 3 did entail some considerable amount of work. Ho took great interest in the Council's affairs, with the object of opening tip the country by good and substantial roads, 'whioh was tho principal thing they were there for. Ho once more thanked the Council. ACCOUNTS. Vouchers to tho amount of .-GlO'lO" 10s id were passed for payment. tenders. Fresh tenders for the Mangakakipokipo bridge were ordered to be called for as only one had been sent in. correspondence. From Mr Joll calling attention to tho evils of pound keeping. The ranger had also developed a foudness for a shooting gallery.—The letter was referred to the ranger for his report. i From C.Kennedy, stating that the road construction contract between Ukuwa and Titnamii-was completed. The work had not been done in a'satisfactory manner, and he had therefore deducted £26 from tho contract price.—Received. .':■'. MISCE—LANEOCrs. ' Mr Bennett moved—That tenders in
future close at, ten a.m. on the day of the Council meeting.—Carried.
The clerk was instructed to prepare a statement of all moneys expended on the hew line of road between Omabu and Patea, said statement to contain separately the amm;:it provided by government, and the amount provided by county, and ulso the amount'of annual rates collected beyond the Kuripapanga bridge. Cr. Bennett gave notice for next meeting, that the engineer be instructed to prepare a plan and estimates for a bridge across the Maugaori river at Eissington. Captain Birch moved that the overseer take steps to widen the Patca road in those places which were dangerous. The expenditure not to exceed £100.—Carried. The Council then adjourned.
