Auckland, This day.

Mr J. C. Firth lias telegraphed to the manager of the N.Z. shipping company the following:—Great discontent here about no direct steamers coining to Auckland. It looks like growing into a combination to ship exclusively by other routes. The committee of tho Chamber of Commerce meet to-day to consider action re direct steam service recently taken. I hope you will at once check the rising movement by acting promptly and liberally. Mr Coster replied that tho directors were prepared to see a fair proportion of steamers come .to Auckland, and arrangements would be made accordingly-
