PORT OF NAPIER ARRIVALS. October IS—Southern Cross, s.s., from Poverty Bay and Auckland IS—Frank Guy, three-masted schooner, from Newcastle, N.S.W. 18—Onward, fore-and-aft schooner, from Oamaru 18—Manapouri, s.s., from Poverty Bay and Auckland, with a number of passengers. * The following is the report of the passage of the s.s. Southern Cross, Capt. Hutchison, kindly furnished by her purser, Mr J. Waldie:—Left Auckland at 6.35 p.m. on loth inst., arrived at Hicks Bay 0.10 p.m. on 10th, sailed at S p.m., rounded East Cape at 9.40 p.m., arrived at Waipm at 6 a.m. on 17th, sailed at 6.30 a.m., passed Gable End Foreland at 1.15 p.m., and arrived at Gisborne 4.30 p m., sailed at G.o p.m., and passed Portland Island lightat 11.39 p.m. same date, and arrived at Napier at G. 20 a.m. on 18th. Experienced strong | S.W. winds and high sea to East Cape, fresh S.E. wind and sea to arrival at Gisborne, light N.W. winds and swell to arrival here. Her outward passengers were trken off by the launch Boojum at 9.30 a.m. The Cross steamed out out of the bay for Wellington at about 10 o'clock. Mr. J. H. Vautier's three-masted schooner Frank Guy, Captain J. P. Balle. dropped anchor in the bay at about 9.30 a.m. this day, after a nine days' trip from Newcastle, N.S.W. Her cargo of coal is consigned to Mr. F. W. Williams, and will be discharged inside at the breastwork. The Frank Guy had not been boarded by the Health Officer and pilot up to the time our report left the Spit. The p.s. Manaia still awaits a favorable chance to proceed to Wairoa and Waihua. The Union Company's s.s. Manapouri Captain Thomas Logan from Auckland via Poverty Bay, was at the anchorage at an early hour this morning and was tendered at 6 a.m. by the launch and lighters for mails passengers and cargo. The former outwards were to havo been taken out at 2 o'clock this afternoon the vessel steaming for Southern ports and Melbourne at about an hour later. The purser of this vessel as usual neglected to furnish us with cither passenger list or report and as the former were not obtainable at tho customs we are unable to present our readers with the passengers' names. A white fore-and-aft schooner arrived iv tho bay this morning, which is presumed to bo tho Onward, from Oamaru, with a cargo of produce. The three-masted schooner Mary Wadloy, Captain Moore, was to have sailed iv ballast to-day for Newcastle, but up to noon the heavy westerly wind blowing prevented her getting- away from the breastwork. The Wairoa bar is reported by the pilot to bo in bad order again to-day. The Union Company's s.s. To Anau, Capt. Thos. McGce, is telegraphed as having left Wsllington for Northern ports at 8 15 p.m. last night, and will probably arrive iv the bay at between two and three o'clock this afternoon. She will be tendered as usual, the outward mails and passengers being announced to leave tho wharf at 5 p.m. Br Electric Telec-raph.—Copyhigiit. (reuter's telegrams.) (Received October IS, 1 a.m.) Syuney, Friday. Sailed, this afternoon, Union steamship Wairarapafor Auckland. Tawhiao and other Maori chiefs are passengers for New Zealand. [by telegraph.] Auckland, This day. The scow Una, owned by D. H. McKouzio, of Auckland, with timber from Tairua, struck a sunken rock outside this harbour. She is expected to become a total wreck. The ketch Opotiki ran on a sunken rock off Mercury Bay and became a total wreck. She had a cargo of maize. Tho owners of tho vessel, Messrs Owen and Graham, aro insured in tho United office for £400, of which £200 is reinsured in the New Zealand office. Mr A. Heather has part of the cargo insured for £80 in tho United office. The ownership of the balance of the cargo is not yet known.
