AGITATION AGAINST LICENSING AMENDMENT BILL.
Christchurcii, This day. A public meeting was held last evening to oppose the passage of the Licensing Act Amendment Bill. A resolution was passed to tho effect that Major Steward's bill was uncalled for, that the meeting entirely disapproved of any scheme of compensation for the refusal of renewal of a license, that the optional endorsement clauses would lessen the restraint which the law at present placed around the trade, and would bo fraught with terrible evil to tho community.
