NAPIER HOSPITAL.
Our contemporary on Friday last said "The Government have refused to pay the printing and advertising in connection with the introduction of the Hospital Committee's Bill into Parliament. Mr Knowing, as chairman, passed for payment an account of .-£ll 13s Gd for printing the bill and advertising in the evening paper." To that we reply, at the meeting of the Hospital Committee in August, Mr Tiffen moved "That it bo paid out of Committee funds." This was seconded and carried. The voucher, therefore, was not properly sent to the Government; the Committee recognised it was one for them to deal with. The following correspondence speaks for itself: — Napier, 19th September, ISS4. Sir, —I have thu honor to enclo.se for your information a cutting from the Hawke's Bay Herald of this date referring to a voucher that was brought before the Hospital Committee at itra meeting in August. The voucher was ordered to bo paid by the Committee, and if it was sent to the Government it lias been clone without any authority. The Committee meet again on Wednesday next, and, as there is no chairman, I, at "the request of several of the Committee, address you on the subject. The Committee would feel obliged if you ■would wire information as to -whether this voucher was sent in ; if so, by whom was it sent, unci whether the reply is correctly given.—l have, &c, F. Suttox. G. S. Cooper, Esq., Under-Secretary, Wellington. Letter received. Newspaper paragraph rpii to correct. My memorandum on voucher rightly quoted, as far as my memory serves. Voucher sent officially to this office with a batch of others by secretary, with minute that charge was unreasonable, and ho declined to cci-tfy.—G-. S. Coor-Kii.
