WASTE LANDS BOARD.

This Day.

The Board met at 11 a.m. Present: The Commissioner of Crown Lands, Messrs Sutton, Buchanan, Harding, and Wellwood. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. From the Under-Secretary, forwarding the Law Officer's opinion on the the subject of the recovery of the back rent on the Hon. G. M. Waterhouse's license No. 4.—Th>rent having been paid on July 31, the mat-, ter wa3 allowed to drop. From R. T. Mortensen, of tho Makatoku saw mill, asking jiermission to lay a tramway through a portion of section 22, Block VI., Norsewood district.—Granted. From F. Forward, Makatoku, stating he is about to fence off his purchases, and offering to fell the bush 66 feet in width on the Government reserve, section 13, Block IX., Takapau district, along the boundary between his sections Nos 12 and 25 if he be allowed to use the timber. —It was decided to inform Mr Forward that the Board had no objection to his felling the bush the width provided by the Fencing Act, namely, 12 feet, and that the Board would consent to his felling tho timber 66 feet in width provided he paid royalty on all the timber he made use of.

A petition signed by Ole Ericsson and 19 other residents at Norsewood asking that tho village lots at Norsewood may be offered for sale.—The Commissioner stated that the lots in question were now being surveyed. —The Board dt*cided to inform tho petitioners that the sections would be placed in the market directly the survey was completed. It was also decided to have the reserves to the north and west of the village divided into five and ten-acre lots.

An application was received from Donald McDonald to pay up on section 8, Bush Mills Settlement.—Decided to receive tlu. balance of the purchase money. Application from John Bargh to pay up on section 12, Block XIII., Tahoraite district.—Decided to receive the money.

Application from J. Wood to pay up on section 12, BlookllL, Norsewood.—Decided that the balance of tho purchase money could not be received until he had complied with the terms of his lioense, and put substantial improvements on the land to the value of £1 for every acre.

From W. J. Crawford, chairman Woodville Public Library, asking that section 40, in the township, may bo roserved for the erection of a Mechanic's Institute thereon. —Decided to recommend His Excellency to reserve the section for the purpose applied for.

From Daniel Kemp, of section 4, Block IX., Tahoraite, asking for an extension of time in which to pay the instalment now due.—Decided to grant four months extension. Application from R. Dicky to transfer section 9, Block XIII., Tahoraite to A. Giimour. —Approved.

From Messrs Lee and Sheath, asking to have the land between the main road to Clive and the Wataangaanga blocks put up for sale.—Decided to offer the strip of land referred to for sale at the next auction of Crown lauds at the upset price of £7 10s per acre. The applications of G. W. Upchurch, of F. Shanley, and Alexander Smith were approved. The reports of the Crown Lands Ranger were read and passed. The Chairman laid before the Board compiled plans showing the sections that havo been taken up for cash and on the deferred payment system in Blocks VI. and IX., Woodville district ; in Blocks IX., XIII., and XIV., Tahoraite district, and in the Kumeroa village, together with a statement of the expenditure in opening up those lands for sale, and an estimate of the receipts from sales, &c. The Board then adjourned.
