WRECK OF BRIGANTINE AUGUSTA.
Invercaegill, This day.
The brigantino Augusta, 138 tons, Murdoch master, from Newcastle Avith coal. Avas Avrccked on Sunday morning outside the New River heads. The vessel Avas bound for Invcrcargill and ran in to receive a pilot. The Avind Avas uncertain, veering from N.W. to N., and falling light at times. Pilot Clare put off, but by the time he reached tho Augusta it Avas impossible to do anything to save the vessel, which had missed stays, with Long Island close aboard. She went on the rocks and became a total wreck. The hull and cargo Avill be offered for sale. The Augusta Avas formerly owned by Mr W. Todd here, but Avas sold to Messrs Green and Co., of Rockhampton, some time ago, and has since been engaged in trading between this port and Queensland. The insurances are not known, Mr Todd, -w-lio wis iig-out for the vcwscl, being out of toAvn.
