Hunter Brown and ten natives. _ «> The Union Company's s.s. Omapere, Captain Allman, from Dunedin and Wellington, arrived at the anchorage at_ 12.30 p.m. to-day. Having missed the tide by about three-quarters of an hour, she will be unable to discharge inside until to-morrow. She Avas tendered on arrival for _ mails and passengers by tho Boojum, Avhich had not returned AA-hen our report left the Spit. Her time of departure for Gisborne, Tauranga, and Auckland has been postponed until 0 p.m. to-morroAr. The p.s. Manaia, Capt. Baxter, steamed for Wairoa at 1.30 a.m. this day, and arrived in tho river at 7.30 a.m. The s.s. Thomas Russell, Captain C. Helandcr, from Gisborne and Auckland, arrived hero this morning, and has discharged her cargo inside at the breastwork. She is to steam again at -1 p.m. this day. The s.s. Fairy, Captain Peterson, took her departure for Waimarama and Pourerere at 12 o'clock last night. The s.s. Go-ahead, which has been expected for the past two days, appears to have only left Wellington at 5 p.m. yesterday, and'so is not likely to arrive before to-morroAv morning. The s.s. Wairoa, Capt. 11. Anderson, took her departure for Wairoa at 12.30 a.m. this day, taking a full cargo and about fifty-five passengers. She arrived in the river at 7.30 am. and is reported as having steamed a"am for Napier at 9 a.m. She will arrive early this afternoon, and at midnight tonight is expected to get away again AA-ith the Judge of tho Native Lauds Court and some other passengers. nifrhiThe Union Company's s.s. Southern Cross Avas to have left Wellington at 3 p.m. this day, and will be due hero at about the same hour to-morrow. The brigantinc Gleaner is telegraphed as having left Oamaru Avith a general cargo on Saturday morning last. Some very interesting facts Avere mentioned by the chairman of the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Company at their halfyoarlv meeting. The annual income of tho Peninsular and Oriental Company is equivalent to that of a small kingdom. Their navy is much larger than that of many a small State Avhose head has claims to bo regarded as one of tho reigning Sovereigns of Europe. Lasi year, with an aggregate tonnage of 170,000 tons, Avhich had cost m construction over five millions sterling, they covered a mileage of 2,100,000 miles. In the tAvelvc months they spent £180,000 m Ava«-cs and food and half a million in coal, over £200,000 in Suez Canal dues, and £100,000 in port and pilotage charges, making a total of nearly a million and a half under these four heads alone. That is an average of about 10s each mile covered. The coal consumed last year weighed 400,000 tons ; that is to say, it took one ton to carry a steamer six miles. By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.
