DRUNKEN RIOT.

A small riot took place on Saturday night while a constable was arresting a drunken hoodlum near the Opera House. A number of his sympathisers attempted a rescue, but the police were reinforced, and after a long struggle, in AA'hich half a dozen of the police got knocked about and their uniforms torn, they succeeded in getting their prisoner to the station through the aid of some respectable citizens, though surrounded by a howling mob several hundred strong. Half a dozen arrests Averc made and more aro to folloAV.
Five of the hoodlums concerned in the riot on Saturday night were brought up at tho Police Court to-day, and Averesentcnced to terms of imprisonment varying from two days to a month. Two were remanded till Wednesday.
